Starfish Asia (UK)
Starfish Asia is a UK registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO No. 1181649)
Mike and Kerstin Wakely
In their 35 years of voluntary service in South Asia, Mike and Kerstin Wakely were often faced with the ugly face of poverty. It seemed so unjust that many have to suffer when just a little help can make all the difference. Mike and Kerstin began working with their network of national contacts to provide help. Starfish Asia was the result of that concern. Mike has served as Executive Trustee of Starfish Asia (UK), and Kerstin as the Treasurer and Administrator. They will be stepping down from their roles in 2019, when a new CEO will be appointed.
Mags (Margaret) Robson volunteered to help with the administration in January 2017. Since then she has become an ever more vital part of our small team. She is now the main Administrator, working closely together with Kerstin. She launched a new database in 2018 and manages most of the accounts.
Mags was born in Lahore, Pakistan, and grew up in Karachi where her father established and ran Zor Engineers for many years. She came to Britain in 1983 to go to University and then worked as a civil engineer for ten years, before taking a break to raise her family. She says: ‘ I am delighted to be part of the team as I have been a supporter of Starfish Asia since the beginning. Also, having lived for the first eighteen years of my life in Karachi, the people of Pakistan are very close to my heart.’
