Starfish Asia (UK)

Mike and Kerstin Wakely – Founders

Mike and Kerstin Wakely worked in Christian voluntary service in Pakistan for ten years. In 2003 they founded Starfish Asia in response to the urgent need to provide education and hope for Pakistan’s Christian children. Mike is the Executive Trustee pro tem, and will soon be recruiting further leadership to take the charity into the future.

Kerstin was originally the only administrator and treasurer but has gradually transferred responsibilities to Margaret Robson (Mags). She continues to communicate with our supporters and also writes the monthly prayer bulletin.

Starfish Pakistan

Starfish Pakistan was registered as a Trust in Pakistan in 2003, and operates completely independently from Starfish Asia

Starfish Pakistan is based in Lahore, and is run by Anser Javed, the Chief Executive Officer of Starfish Pakistan. He is supported by his wife Kashi, and a staff team of around 7 dedicated and hardworking individuals.

Anser and Kashi Javed

Anser became Director of Starfish Pakistan in 2012. He was born in Karachi (Pakistan’s southern coastal mega-city) in 1978, son of a family of labourers. His mother was a street sweeper and his father worked in the sanitary department cleaning drains. Thanks to the sacrifice of his mother, the help of the Salvation Army hostel, where he spent much of his childhood, and his own ambition, he gained a BA and went on to pursue a degree in school management at the Agha Khan University, Karachi.

After 8 years as Administrator of the Holy Shepherd School in north Karachi, during which he increased student numbers from 200 to 650, he was invited to become national Director of Starfish Pakistan.
